Wild Clay

The You and I Are Earth projects  sparked an interest in working with natural clays. Teaming up with Mary Garvie, an experienced gardener and a trainee End of Life Companion, we collaborated with The Community Apothecary in Waltham Forest to discover, excavate, and test their clays. As part of my research into working with wild clay and firing techniques, I joined Ruby Tailor's fascinating wild pottery course.

More recently, I've been experimenting with clay slip sourced from the Community Apothecary and using a microwave at home to fire the final pieces. This exploration has led me to craft Midwinter baubles and memento pendants, experimenting with the rich qualities of this locally sourced clay and incorporating the You&i font.
