Memento Mori Workshops

Expanding upon the themes explored in my art project, You & I are Earth I collaborated with Creating Conversations CIC to design and facilitate a workshop.

Motivated by a desire to engage in open conversations about death, dying, and grief, I began attending Death Cafes run by Creating Conversations CIC. Inspired by these experiences, I approached them to create a workshop aimed at fostering discussions through the act of object making. This unique workshop invites participants to craft their own "memento mori" object, encouraging dialogue during the creative process. The culmination of the workshop involves a Death Cafe session, using the final fired objects as prompts for meaningful conversations. Participants can then take their creations home for individual daily reflection, if desired.

"Memento Mori," translating to 'remember you must die,' is an ancient practice found in various religions and cultural traditions. Regardless of our faith, age, or background, we all share the inevitability of death. This reflective practice provides a space to contemplate mortality, encouraging us to ponder what it means to live well. As the saying goes, 'Dying well starts with living well.'

This workshop is inclusive and welcomes everyone; no prior artistic confidence is required. Moreover, it has the flexibility to travel! If you're interested in hosting this workshop, please contact me.
